Asst Manager: Gary Scott

"Gary Scott"

D.O.B: 17/03/80
Place of birth: Edinburgh
Position: Defender/Midfielder
Signed: 99/00
App: 12
Goals: 2
Biography: Gary is a member of the Duddy Hall of fame having served 10 years +, now in his 13th year he doubles up his playing role with the Assistant Manager role and along with Eddie organises and oversees training each week. A valuable member of the management team his views are vital to the manager and his reading of the game and of a player’s ability has helped Duddy secure a number of vital wins over the years. On the park he is a tough tackling centre midfielder who has the ability to spray the ball about but also likes to run with the ball at his feet, his strength being a valuable asset in this aspect of his game. Blessed with a Rory Delap like long throw this has given him a number of assists over the years and is a dangerous weapon for opponents every week. Another player who missed the full season last year and it is great to see him back and raring to go this year.

Secretary: Keith Mellis

 "Rainman"

D.O.B: 27/12/84
Place Of Birth:
Edinburgh
Position:
Defender
Signed: 09/10
App: 18
Goals: 1
Biography: Current club secretary Mellis is another of the big characters amongst the team, he shows no fear on a pitch and flies into tackles with an attitude and determination that is an example to all. Is willing to put his body on the line for Duddy and is very vocal in his communication both in geeing up his teammates, organising the back 4 or noising up the opposition.  Mellis is a very emotional individual on the park and you know every time he steps on the park he will be involved in everything. Off the park in his role as secretary he keeps the club running smoothly despite the attempts of some of his teammates to wind him up and play on his good nature. Not known for his brains he found himself the recipient of last year’s not so coveted ‘dick of the year’ trophy. He will be striving to ensure that this year he keeps himself out of trouble and doesn’t become the first person to retain said trophy.

Treasurer: Grant Brocklehurst

"Chunky"

D.O.B: 22/07/75
Place of birth: Edinburgh
Position: Midfielder/Defender
Signed: 95/96
App: 21
Goals:
Biography: Chunky is yet another player in the hall of fame having served 17 years’ service with the club, the current club treasurer he has served on the committee for a number of years now. Blessed with a sweet left foot Chunky started life with Duddy as a whippet of a left winger but this was brought to an abrupt end as a cruciate ligament injury forced him to miss almost 3 seasons in his early 20s. Since coming back from injury he has had to modify his style and relies on his reading of the game and passing ability more so than the pace that used to beat full backs at regular intervals. As the years have gone by, Chunky has found himself more at home at left back and has put in a number of impressive shifts to date this season in that position. Off the park he lists his hobbies as drive thru’s and carry outs and this is the reason he carries his particular nickname. Another dedicated to the cause man he is slowly but surely pushing himself to get his fitness levels back to what they were a couple of years back. A dressing room favourite amongst the boys mainly as they see him as a good chance to take the mickey and is the brunt of many dressing room weight related jokes. Another man you don’t want to be standing next to on a night out as there will be limited oxygen available.

Web Master: Graeme Brocklehurst

"G"

D.O.B: 07/07/76
Place of birth: Edinburgh
Position: Defender
Signed: 96/97
App:
Goals:
Biography: G was given the lifetime achievement award last year for his 16 years’ service to the club, currently has a place on the committee as the Web master we are not able to call on his considerable skill set on the park this year as he has just undergone his second cruciate ligament operation. In his day he was a roving centre half and his long legs used to make it impossible for opposition strikers to pass, once the ball was at his feet his runs up field from centre half had to be seen to be believed as he galloped past all comers. Has missed the majority of the last 3-4 seasons from his first cruciate ligament operation and sadly has had a relapse of the same injury which may lead to him ultimately hanging up his Duddy boots. We hope to see him again on the park soon but ultimately if he stays off history tells us we will most likely reach a cup final as despite being with the club for 16 years he has managed to miss our cup finals to date through injury! A previous winner of multiple Player of the year awards he is not one to find yourself standing next to on a night out if you expect riveting chat!

First Team Coach: Edward McInally

"Eddie"

D.O.B:
Place of birth: Glasgow
Position: Midfielder/Defender
Signed: 08/09
App: 15
Goals:
Biography: Eddie is another player back after a year away from Duddy, part of the Duddy promotion team of 3 years ago Eddie moved to Bermuda to work and is now back in Edinburgh where he belongs. A mad fitness guru who is part of the Duddy management team as a coach his training methods are feared throughout the squad but a major benefit to the improvement in our all-round fitness. On the park he is a very good communicator, a no nonsense centre half who will run through a wall for the club but also who has that bit of class and composure to bring the ball down and start a move when the opportunity presents itself. Few can argue that he is the fittest guy on the team and expects everyone to reach the high standards he sets himself. Off the park a good guy to have around and at the forefront of a night out. An absolute nightmare to find yourself next to him on the side-line if he happens to be benched but fortunately that doesn’t happen to often!

Chairman: Sandy Nicol

"Nipple"

D.O.B:
Place of birth:
Position: Defender
Signed: 93/94
App:
Goals:
Biography: Sandy has recently retired from the playing squad after 19 years’ service but remains as part of the team as the Chairman, this year due to family commitments we will not see Sandy as much but he remains a Duddy man to the core. Having had his testimonial last year where he typically managed to score an own goal he is another owner of a lifetime achievement award. Having started his playing career as a speedy winger the years took their toll on his pace and Sandy found himself as a regular left back where he excelled for a couple of seasons. He has been Assistant manager and Treasurer in his time and his current role as Chairman remains as long as he wants it.

"Magoo"

D.O.B:
Place of birth:
Position: Goalkeeper
Signed: 02/03-03/04, 06/07
App: 19
Clean sheets: 3
Biography: Magoo is just entering his 10th year with Duddy over the course of 2 periods having defected to join Drummond Star for a couple of years. A great shot stopper, Magoo is a very established and very accomplished goalkeeper. His communication and vision has developed greatly over the years and his kicking is slowly but surely getting better. Last year’s player’s player of the year, Magoo can also boast a further couple of player of the year awards in his earlier years. At times last year he had a thankless task but still performed to a high ability every week, very good at winning the psychological battles with strikers one on one with him Magoo is another of the dressing room whipping boys that takes a fair bit of a beating when it comes to the banter. Affectionately known as the tramp around the dressing room, he is another one that obviously doesn’t boast a watch in his armoury due to his constant last minute appearance in the changing room on game days.

Stephen Murray

"Stephen"

D.O.B:
Place of Birth:
Position:
Goalkeeper
Signed: 10/11
App:
Clean Sheets:
Biography: Stephen is into his second season with Duddy, making the transfer day deadline last year primarily to act as back up to Ross McGill in goals for this season. He endured a bit of a baptism of fire in his first couple of Duddy games although his bravery and determination have been evident to see. His commitment and dedication are second to none and he continues to improve each session at training. He will strive to continue this improvement to allow him to challenge Magoo for the keeper jersey.

Defenders

Paul Nibloe

"Nibs"

D.O.B:
Place of birth: Edinburgh
Position: Defender/Midfielder
Sgned: 92/93
App: 21
Goals: 9
Biography: The old timer of the club, Nibs has been with Duddy for an astonishing 20 years. Having picked up the lifetime achievement award 3 years ago and completing his testimonial he continues to go strong and the start of this year has arguably been his best ever. Starting life as a pacey attacking midfielder, Nibs was known for his dribbling ability which used to culminate in a number of goals. On his day he was a feared midfielder and dominated many a midfield battle. As time has gone on in recent years he has found himself at centre back and was just as effective mopping up the danger despite his preference to be more attack minded. This year finds him back in the midfield again as part of the protection force for the defence, his aerial ability and bite in the tackle take a lot of pressure from the defence as the opposition need to get through Nibs first. Still a threat from set pieces and the rare occasions he gets to go forward, it will be a sad day for Duddy if he ever hangs his boots up!

Richard Hill

"Ricardo"

D.O.B: 05/10/83
Place of Birth: Dumbarton
Position: Defender/Midfielder
Signed: 10/11
App: 14
Goals:
Biography: Ricardo signed for Duddy at the start of last season and was blighted with injury in a stop start first season, preferring to play in midfield he adapted his game to play as sweeper last year with his reading and understanding of the game vital in a quick development curve in that position. Not afraid to go in where it hurts he is also able to start moves from the back and is a good communicator and motivator. Richard has worked very hard over the pre season on his fitness levels and has benefitted from this by staying clear of injury and striking up a solid central defensive partnership with Eddie with the result the defence is looking much more solid and benefitting from a more consistent line up this season. Has no doubt in his own ability and has told everyone in the team this on a number of occasions, his self-proclaimed title of one of the fittest in the team will no doubt turn to THE fittest person in the team before long. There is no doubting his dedication to the cause and his enthusiasm to all things Duddy, do not under any circumstances make eye contact with him or mention Duddy out with a game scenario as you will get your ear chewed about his opinions for the next 3 days, if you are lucky enough that he doesn’t have your contact details then do everything you can to keep it that way, if he has your contact details I suggest you move house.

Robbie Forsyth

"Robbie"

D.O.B: 01/11/87

Position:
Defender/Midfielder
Signed: 09/10
App: 19
Goals:
Biography: Robbie is now into his third season with Duddy, having completed his coaching badges in the states Robbie came back and has been a great help in providing useful and varied training sessions. On the park he has started life as a right back before last season spending the majority of the time at centre midfield, this season he finds himself back at his more comfortable right back position. Very composed on the ball Robbie has a good range of passing and has an eye for the game developing around him, at right back he is always willing to offer an overlap to the wide players. Likes to get the ball down and play in triangles he is also very elusive with the ball at his feet, many a time he has looked in trouble yet a quick turn or move has seen him get out and move the ball on.

"Del"

D.O.B: 10/12/75
Place of birth: Whitburn
Position: Midfielder/Defender
Signed: 07/08
App: 5
Goals:
Biography: Into his fifth year with Duddy, Del finds himself in the veteran category. Despite his relatively short period with the club he has managed to find himself playing in every position at one time or another with the exception of goalkeeper. Primarily right sided, Del has recently turned out at right back and is very comfortable in this position, no nonsense and with an eagerness to pass the ball and move on to provide an attacking option Del has been working extremely hard on his fitness levels and is as fit now as he has ever been in his Duddy career. A former club secretary his work behind the scenes was pivotal in getting Duddy their glamour fixture with Champions league qualifiers FBK Kaunas in June 07, many of the principles we still use now are as a result of the work when he was on the committee. A dedicated individual, Del hopes to add some Duddy silverware to his collection before he hangs up his boots.

John Tams

"JT"

D.O.B:
Place of birth:
Position: Midfielder
Signed: 06/07
App: 10
Goals:
Biography: JT is a true club legend, having won numerous player of the year awards over the years his appearances last year were hampered by a horrific car accident whilst on his honeymoon which left him fighting for his life in an Italian hospital at the start of last season. It was a horrible time for all connected with Duddy for this to happen to one of our favourite sons let alone the effect it had on John, Nicola and their families, it is a true testament to the man himself that not only did he pull through the worst of his injuries but he actually delighted us all by managing to get himself back into the starting 11 for the last few games of last season. He has the full package for a central midfielder, he has the strength and fight to mix it up where need be, an unbelievable skill level to beat opponents like they are not there with a drop of the shoulder or a quick turn and he has a range of passing that makes him unplayable on his day. He continues to work his way to regaining full fitness and I’m sure it’s only a matter of time before we see him up on the podium collecting more player of the year awards.

Grant Ferguson

"Fergie"

D.O.B:
Place of birth:
Position: Midfielder
Signed: 07/08
App: 18
Goals:
Biography: Fergie is the current team captain and as such deserves much more from a profile other than saying he had travelled to Australia which is what his previous one consisted off. Fergie has been with the club for 6 years now and has been an ever present in the team ever since. His height and strength allow him to dominate the centre midfield area both in the air and on the ground, he has been a stalwart in his new found role of protecting the back 4 as a defensive midfielder, always keen to get forward when the opportunity dictates his vision and passing ability has opened the door for the strikers on a number of occasions, his outside of the right foot pass a particularly devastating weapon in his armoury. For so long he was doing the dirty work in midfield to allow John Tams to work his magic he has now carved his own niche on the team and is one of the first names on the team sheet due to his work rate, determination and dedication to the team. Off the park he is our social convener and the centre off most of the banter even though most of it is far too intelligent for most of the rest of the team to follow. A very likeable and funny lad his newsletters and emails about Duddy are hilarious and he is responsible for allocating many of the Duddy boy’s current nicknames. As current captain his role on the committee allows him to pass over his opinion on all things Duddy and many of his suggestions make us the team we are today. A true Duddy boy, he has also travelled to Australia in his time.

Stephen Hughes

"Hughesy"

D.O.B:
Place of birth: Northern Ireland
Position: Midfielder
Signed: 08/09
App: 12
Goals: 2
Biography: Last year’s player of the year, Hughesy is a wee terrier of a player. A great first touch and pace to burn coupled with a great fitness level Hughesy will run up and down the wing all day long. From an attacking perspective he has a great final ball and is able to beat opponents hands down to get in a position to deliver, from a defensive aspect he is always back helping out the full back and despite his size is very tenacious and fearless in the tackle, surprisingly and an example to all in the team he is decent in the air and will win a fair amount of ball even though more often than not he is the smallest player on the park. A great player to have on the park and has a real determination to win. Primarily plays wide on the right but recently has stepped in as an emergency right back and also is comfortable playing in behind the strikers, has a good appetite for the game and his knowledge and understanding of what we are trying to do make him a stand out in any position.

Danny Simpson

"Dan"

D.O.B:
Place of Birth:
Position:
Midfielder
Signed: 11/12
App: 11
Goals: 3
Biography: A new signing this year, Danny has made an instant impact to the team with his all-round fitness and energy levels. Can run all day and has an eye for a pass that makes him a major player in his preferred centre midfield role. Needs to add more goals to his play to fully complete the skill set but his recent performances suggest this is only a matter of time in coming. A mad Leicester City fan means that his view on football outwith Duddy are not really taken seriously!

Sean Meechan

Biography: Sean is one of the newer members of the squad having joined pre-season previously spending a number of years with Tollcross Thistle. Preferring to play in centre mid, the amount of competition for places has seen him fit in at full back when he has had the opportunity. Sean has a good understanding of the game and uses his strength well to dominate his area. A regular at training he continues to work to cement a place in the team, we have only seen a small amount of action from Sean so far and are sure the best is still to come.

Craig Thomson

"Tomo"

D.O.B:
Place of Birth:
Position:
Midfielder/Striker
Signed: 10/11
App: 20
Goals: 15
Biography: Thommo joined Duddy at the start of last season but was forced to give up his place after a couple of months due to work commitments, fortunately for Duddy he is back this year and has played a prominent part in pre-season and early season games scoring his first competitive goal in our 2-0 defeat of Bonnyrigg. Playing up front or wide of the strikers he has a great desire to win and is confident with the ball at his feet and moving into space, with youth on his side he is one of the fittest members of the team. He has managed to curb his temper so far this year and his versatility will be a benefit to Duddy over the course of a long season.

Biography: A prolific goal scorer, Chris has scored 68 Duddy goals in 3 years. He is a very popular player within the dressing room and earned the nickname ‘Captain Chaos’ in his time as team captain due to his drive and determination to succeed and his passion for everything Duddy. Blessed with a sweet left foot and a tenacious attitude to the game he has scored a number of vital goals for Duddy over the years, capable of the spectacular Chris has been absent from the team last season concentrating on his studies at Dundee Uni. Up front he causes panic amongst defenders due to his bustling style and doesn’t give them a moments peace, he is happy to employ a shoot on sight policy and has the ability to back this up. His petulant outbursts are a thing of legend amongst Duddy folklore as are his motivational voicemails at varying times of the night/early morning, a similar profile caused one particularly vicious petulant outburst in the past so hopefully this one passes the Chaos acceptability sensors. He has been sorely missed on and off the park recently and we look forward to his return to the Duddy line up sometime soon.

Graham Legget

"Leggeto"

D.O.B: 27/05/75
Place of birth: Edinburgh
Position: Striker/Midfielder
Signed: 97/98

Goals:
Biography: Leggeto is another Duddy ‘Hall of Famer’ having given 15 years’ service to the club. A predatory striker his finishing is lethal in and around the box and has scored a number of vital Duddy goals over the years, blessed with a good first touch the ‘Leggeto pirouette’ is a legendary move that Duddy players old and new have been forced to behold. Famously quoted as claiming he ‘had scored more goals than Messi and Ronaldo put together’ unfortunately for Duddy this is about as accurate as his spelling, nevertheless Leggeto is a dangerous man for opponents when he gets into the box. Off the park a great guy to have on a night out until he starts drinking and then it can go either way and you should send him home! He is currently out injured with a ruptured spleen and we hope to see him back to full fitness by the turn of the year.

Alan Congleton

"Big Al"

D.O.B: 18/02/90

Position: Striker
Signed: 09/10

Biography: Alan has been with Duddy for a couple of seasons now and has been unfortunate to be challenging some top strikers for a position in the team , his appearances being less than he would like. Nevertheless his dedication to the cause and determination to improve is there for all to see and he is a great example of the Duddy philosophy. Can always be relied upon and when he gets his chance is composed with a good first touch and has an awareness of his teammates movements to compliment a high pass completion ratio.

Alloysious Massaquoi

"Ally"

D.O.B:
Place Of Birth: Liberia
Position:
Striker
Signed: 09/10
App: 17
Goals: 19
Biography: Ally joined Duddy 3 years ago and was an instant hit with his pace and strength causing opposition defences all sorts of problems. The Liberian born striker suffered a cruciate ligament injury at the tail end of season 09/10 resulting in him losing almost a year of playing time but we are delighted to see him make a full recovery and he has already made a massive difference to the team scoring 7 goals in his first 5 games and creating countless other chances. Blessed with a great turn of pace he also has a massive amount of skill and strength to compliment this and he will be a handful for all defences this year. Off the field Ally is a member of up and coming Hip Hop trio the Young Fathers and his style supports this however he needs to find himself a watch as his timekeeping is atrocious!

John Lowe

"J-Lo"

D.O.B:
Place of Birth:

Position: Striker/Midfielder
Signed: 11/12
App: 18
Goals:
Biography: J-Lo is a new signing this season having impressed in pre-season, previously playing with St Vincents, John has added a new dimension to the forward options able to play wide on the left or right or through the middle. Happy to take the ball to feet and use a combination of pace and dribbling ability to get beyond his player he has a very good final ball into the danger area and has caused problems for opposition defenders this season. Already with a couple of goals to his name he is a danger in the box and his intelligent understanding of the game is a useful ally to his skill set. Another of the boys who are in the top level when it comes to all round fitness he can be relied on to put a shift in for the full 90 minutes, he is also responsible for providing Duddy’s first ever season ticket holder as his dad attends every game to provide the team with much needed support.
