Management

Manager: Michael Dixon

"The Gaffer"

Age: 33
Place of birth: Edinburgh
Position: Midfielder
Squad Number: 7
App: 12 (2)
Goals: 10 (3)
Previous clubs: Hutchison Vale, Motherwell
Biography: Mikey is long servant with 14 years service to Duddingston. The club's all-time top scorer with more than 200 goals, he started off life as a striker before moving back to midfield. As a striker he was lethal in and outside the box, although moving into midfield did not curtail his goal tally as he was still top scorer for four seasons from the middle of the park. A cruciate ligament operation spoiled two years of his playing career but he managed to make a comeback and has been able to modify his style, and with his range of passing can dominate the midfieled area.

Mikey can also boast two Duddingston Player of the Year awards in his time at the club and has spent the last eight years involved in the committee, as Secretary and then as Manager. He remains signed and will play the occasional game when needed, and hopefully he can take the club onto bigger and better things.

Assistant Manager: Gary Scott

"Gary Scott"

Age: 29
Place of birth: Edinburgh
Position: Midfielder
Squad Number: 10
App: 17 (3)
Goals: 1
Previous clubs: Tynecastle, Redhall Star
Biography: A promising youth player with three Scottish Cup winners' medals under his belt Gary has been with Duddingston for seven years, with 2009/2010 being his third as Assistant Manager. A tough-tackling right-sided midfielder with an eye for a pass, Gary can also claim to be a previous Player of the Year, picking up the award in 2004/2005. He possesses a great throw-in that causes all sorts of problems for opposition players. For some reason Gary is the only player that always gets referred to by his full name 'Gary Scott' rather than a shorter nickname.

Position: Goalkeeper
Squad Number: 1

A great shot stopper and a vocal presence behind the defence he is known for his cool head under pressure and is often seen taking on opposing strikers and wandering up the pitch to help out in attack. Ross also plays on a Saturday for Real Maroon, an internet Hearts supporters team, and in 2008 received his first international cap at this level, keeping a clean sheet as Scotland beat England 3-0.
Ross has also won two Player of the Year awards as a Duddingston player.

"Del"

Age: 34
Place of birth: Whitburn
Position: Midfielder
Squad Number: 2
App: 11 (2)
Goals:
Previous clubs: Silverknowes Star, Hearts HYDC, The Scotsman
Biography: Derek was signed mid-season last year from Silverknowes Star. His former club's loss was Duddy’s gain as we secured the signature of a versatile midfielder. Although more comfortable in midfield he has been able to fill in where needed in a number of positions and has played practically everywhere except in goals. Hard-working, his energy is second to none and his philosophy is to play football the proper way and get the ball on the ground.

Derek has joined the committee for 2008/09 as Secretary.

John Tams

Age: 28
Place of birth:
Position: Midfielder
Squad Number: 8
App: 18 (2)

Previous clubs: Inch Boys Club, Tall Oaks, Glenpark, Edinburgh City
Biography: John was a major signing for Duddingston in 2006 and goes into his fourth season at the club with back-to-back Player of theYear awards. A very skillful midfielder JT uses a great deal of guile in the middle of the park to leave opponents in his wake. Although not a prolific goalscorer he chips in with vital goals and a high percentage of assists.
He is a vital component in dictating the tempo of the game. There are not many midfielders at this level of football who are the full package as a player but John’s skill, energy, commitment, and strength in the air makes him one of them.
Another player for the Hearts Internet team who has gained international honours scoring a goal in the 3-0 defeat of England.

Grant Ferguson

"Fergie"

Age: 31
Place of birth:
Position: Midfielder
Squad Number: 6
App: 15 (1)
Goals:
Previous clubs:
Biography: Grant signed for Duddingston in 2007 and has been a dominant force in midfield since. He missed a couple of months of last season due to travelling around Australia. More comfortable in the midfield role, his reading of the game and imposing style allows him to boss the middle of the park while his eye for a pass can create chances for the strike force.
Although not blessed with lightning pace Fergie’s strength and height ensure we also have an alternative option to play him in the wide areas.

Place of birth: Edinburgh
Position: Striker
Squad Number:
App:  4 (1)
Goals: 1

A penalty box poacher who can occasionally surprise with a moment of magic from outside the area, he has chipped in with a number of goals over his Duddy career.

Famous for the Leggeto pirouette that has baffled opponents - and himself - over the years, more often than not he will finish with a extreme coolness.

As the years progress Graham has put his name forward as a defender, midfielder and a goalkeeper, a position he has played on a number of occasions. An interesting character to have on a team night out.

Sandy Nicol

"Nicol"

Age: 34
Place of birth:
Position: Defender
Squad Number: 21
App: 13 (1)
Goals:

Biography: Another member of the squad now entering the ‘veteran’ category, and another long-serving player with 15 years Duddy experience under his belt. After starting life off as a lightning fast striker, as the years have taken their toll Sandy has moved further and further back, and he has recently been plying his trade at full back.
A vocal presence, Sandy’s shouts of "it's still nil-nil" whenever Duddy score a goal are now legendary and cause confusion amongst team-mates and opponents. Sandy has spent a number of years on the committee of the club carrying out roles such as Treasurer and Assistant Manager in his time.

He has shone in every game and is a constant threat. We are all looking forward to Wilson challenging for the Golden Boot this year.
He is Club Captain for season 2009/2010.

Position: Defender/Midfielder
Squad Number: 16
App: 15
Goals: 1
Previous clubs: Glenpark
Biography: Paul is the elder statesman of the club at 35 and has previously been both Manager and Captain of the team. Highly respected by his teammates Nibs used to run the midfield and his tough-tackling style yielded a number of vital Duddy goals over the years. He is the oldest serving current player with 16 years with the club. In recent years as the legs have tired he has found himself using all of this experience and reading of the game in a defensive role where he provides a great service in sweeping up opposition moves with regularity. He received a Lifetime Achievement Award at the end of 2008/09.
A definite Duddy legend and hopefully he has a few more years to come before hanging the boots up.

Graeme Brocklehurst

"G"

Age: 33
Place of birth: Edinburgh
Position: Defender
Squad Number: 4
App: 5 (2)
Goals: (1)
Previous clubs:
Biography: Graeme is another long-term servant of the club with 12 years experience, although he managed to miss both recent Cup Finals due to injury. After starting life off as a midfielder his pace and long legs became a frustrating blockade to opposing strikers as he made the centre half position his own. Such was his competence in this position it has yielded two Player of the Year awards. He also finished runner-up to John Tams last year despite returning from cruciate ligament surgery. G can often be seen galloping through the midfield from his defensive position and has popped up with the occasional goal. His return from injury last year was like a multi-million pound new signing.

Grant Brocklehurst

Place of birth: Edinburgh
Position: Midfielder
Squad Number: 12
App: 16 (1)
Goals: (2)
Previous clubs:
Biography: Yet another long-term servant with 13 years under his belt, he started his career as one of the up-and-coming youngsters known as the ‘young team’. Amazingly the introduction of this youth program gave the club a new lease of life and is partly the reason we are where we are today. Chunky has a very gifted left foot which he uses to great effect in feeding the strikers with numerous chances and has been known to chip in with a number of goals per season.
He is a popular player on and off the pitch and is a very important member on a team night out. Good in the air for one so small and a good tackler, Chunky has been and remains a vital outlet on the left hand side of the pitch and is Club Treasurer.

Mark Naysmith

"Sacs"

Age: 28
Place of birth: Uzbekistan
Position: Defender
Squad Number: 15
App: 11
Goals:
Previous clubs:
Biography: A no-nonsense defender who has been with the club for seven years, he is strong in the air and ferocious in the tackle. Mark can play anywhere in defence and is versatile enough to have played in midfield and even also as an emergency goalkeeper in his time with Duddingston. A popular figure around the changing room with his infectious burst of laughter Sacs is a very lively character and as soon as he crosses the touchline onto the pitch is very committed to the cause and would run through brick walls for the team.
Off the pitch the team would not be surprised to see him running through walls as a hobby such is his reputation for accidentally breaking everything in sight...
